“幼儿身上所蕴含着的那种神秘、脆弱、柔软、湿润、敏感和凄凉,我从未在一个成年人身上看到过。”1993年夏天,一次为玩具公司制作玩偶的偶然契机,激起了姜杰运用“婴儿”形象进行创作的冲动。1994年5月,她在中央美术学院画廊举办首次个展:悬挂在空中的塑料薄膜内,50个蜡制婴儿被堆置在同一空间里,透明的丝线在空间中穿梭、闪烁。这组作品题为《易碎的制品》,正是从这个时期起,姜杰开始挣脱传统雕塑形式的束缚,“让艺术敞向充满矛盾,充满痛苦和喜悦的生活”。
