On December 29, 1941, three weeks after Japan raided Pearl Harbor and dragged the United States into World War II, President Roosevelt, in a famous speech, called on the American people: “We must become the world’s democratic force Arsenal. ” Guided by this thinking, the United States has become the largest ever demonstration of large-scale weapons production in history. At the end of this war of mankind’s largest scale, U.S. engineers and workers produced a total of 124,000 ships of various types and warships, 300,000 combat aircraft, 41 billion rounds of artillery shells and bombs, 100,000 tanks and armored vehicles 2.4 million military trucks, 434 million tons of steel and 36 billion yards (about 32.9 billion meters) of cotton cloth.
