Kostial pointed out that some metals have a special metabolic process in juvenile animals. Juveniles are more dangerous than adult animals when exposed to the same dose of certain toxic metals. In order to elucidate the mechanism of metal absorption in the gastrointestinal tract of newborn animals, the authors selected rats of different age to study the retention of mercury and cadmium in various parts of the intestine.
