Over the years, there have been many ways to estimate the relative cooling rate of quench media. These methods can generally be divided into two major categories of heat and metallurgy. Calorimetric method is often used in both, because this method is more satisfactory in terms of price, speed and reproducibility, especially long-term use. In this regard, the International Federation of Heat Treatment (IFHT) has formally adopted the standard procedure for measuring cooling curves. However, even with the better reproducibility of the cooling curves now obtained, how to best utilize these curves to estimate the quenchant relative
