GABA 的环形衍生物吡乙酰胺(piracetam)和奥拉酰胺(oxiracetam)均属新型精神活性药物。它们在增强记忆,促进学习及改善智力活动等方面有独特之处并基本上无严重的不良反应。吡乙酰胺能改善联想功能,增加脑细胞能量,特别是在能量不足时更是如此。因而它被广泛地应用于儿科临床以改善儿童智力,用于医治记忆力减退等老年病及脑血供应失调、外伤后综合征,奥拉酰胺是吡乙酰胺的新型高效类似物,对其特性目前尚无过多研究。但在用非纯系雄性大鼠所做的一系列比较实验中证明,这两种药物在活性上稍有区别。具体实验及结果如下。
