In Ci Hai, “impetuous ” is “reckless impatient ” meaning. Jia Pingwa took “impetuous” to name his novel, in order to express his vision and thinking of the real world. By shaping the image of Golden Dog and other characters, the author shows the rural landscape in the wave of reform in the 1980s and shows the impetuous social atmosphere in a particular era. The impetuous here is not only the restlessness of the people, but also the hope and expectation of the future.
