南京大学的英国史研究具有较长的历史和深厚的根基。英国史研究是本学科研究的主要方向之一,在国内学术界享有很高的声誉。学科创始人蒋孟引教授从英国留学归来开创了中国的英国史研究,同时也奠定了本学科的基础。而王觉非教授的努力工作,使世界史学科的英国史研究得到了进一步的发展。而蒋王二公在学科建设的同时,还做了一件具有远见的工作——带出了我国从事英国史研究的众多研究生,其中留在南大历史系的钱乘旦、杨豫、沈汉、陈晓律等人,对本学科英国史研究的传承与拓展发挥了重要的作用。经过学科几代人的艰苦努力,本学科在人才培养、队伍建设、科研成果等方面取得了重大进展,
The study of British history in Nanjing University has a long history and profound foundation.
