Pianist, conductor and teacher, Leonid Cruzel, deeply impressed by his efforts in Russia, Germany and Japan in the three major regions of world music art. However, Cruzel first belonged to Russia - where he was born, where he started his musical activities, where the artistic accomplishments of professional pianists were achieved. When Leonid Creutzer passed away in 1953, I became more and more aware of the importance of writing a Cruzelet biography when I learned personally about Cruzell and the few who listened to his remarkable, brilliant performance. Encouraged by Professor Gotsenstein of Hamburg, I wrote the memoir of Leonid Cruzre in the Netherlands in 1976. Unfortunately, this small biography is not comprehensive, it only wrote some of the “Japanese” period (1937 ~ 1943). At that time I was in Tokyo, often gathered beside Cruz, listened to his concert, and with himself. Some of the facts that I have provided are not directly related to Kruseri’s musical activities, yet they are all key to a better understanding of Cruz’s mood, behavior and creative principles.
