A few weeks ago, Turkmenistan’s President Niyazov signed a decree a few days ago to establish the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas, appointing former deputy prime minister Nazar Suyonov, according to the June issue of the U.S. “Russian Oil Investors” magazine. (Nazar Suyunov) as Minister of the Ministry, empowered the Ministry of full control of oil and gas production enterprises, and will be responsible for such as the selection of international winners and the drafting of tax legislation and other services. According to estimates by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of National Property, the newly formed Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas will control nearly 70% of the country’s economy.
