Relationship between Permeability and Porosity Porosity and permeability are two basic characteristics commonly found in reservoirs, measured by porosity and permeability, respectively. Porosity is the percentage of the pore volume of the formation, and permeability is an indication of the fluidity of the fluid of some viscosity through the pores of the formation. In analyzing reservoir properties, people are particularly concerned about effective porosity because only effective pores contribute to permeability.
