California at risk The California Earthquake Safety Commission recently issued a report entitled “California at risk: earthquake disaster mitigation 1987-92.” According to John Mcleod, head of the program, the report details a comprehensive State Seismic Safety Plan and recommendations from now to the end of the century on California’s mitigation of the earthquake. The 66 top priorities proposed in the first five-year plan provide the blueprint for state and state legislatures, local election officials, heads of government agencies and private sector policymakers to mitigate future earthquakes. The program gives top priority to life safety and focuses on improving state emergency response capabilities and reducing the number of hazardous buildings in the state.
