Objective To investigate the effect of first trimester medical abortion on pregnancy. Methods A prospective investigation of 126 pregnant women with history of medical abortion and 260 pregnant women with abortion history were followed up for the outcome of pregnancy and childbirth. Results Due to placenta-induced complication, the incidence rate of postpartum hemorrhage in the medical abortion group was significantly lower than that in the induced abortion group (P <001). The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage was also significantly lower in the abortion group than in the induced abortion group (P0.05). Conclusions The complications of placenta re-pregnancy after medical abortion in first trimester women are less than that of second trimester pregnancy after induced abortion, and have greater safety.
