NASA LEWIS Research Center recently developed the Lube PS200, an antiwear, self-lubricating composite ion spray coating that can be used on oil-free, low-friction wear surfaces such as bushings in piston engines. This coating has good thermochemical stability, can be used for mixing engine or adiabatic diesel engine. Due to the chromium carbide phase, with good wear characteristics, silver and chemically stable eutectic barium fluoride and calcium fluoride, a thin film of low shear strength is formed on the sliding surface.
