Inspired by the behavior, experience, and cognition from nature and society systems, in-telligent optimization aims to achieve satisfactory results effectively and efficiently. Based on the mechanisms of computational intelligence, intelligent optimization algo-rithms have been successfully applied to solve the complex problems with various com-plexities in many engineering fields. With the development of artificial intelligence and knowledge engineering, increasing attention is being paid to theoretical analysis, algo-rithm design, and performance improvement of intelligent optimization as well as a wide range of applications especially scheduling problems. Intelligent optimization and scheduling theory, algorithms and applications have already become frontier researches full of both opportunities and challenges.
