一九八○年,呼和浩特市郊区白庙子公社,实播甜菜14,100亩,平均单产3,631斤,总产25,610吨,平均单产和总产比一九七九年分别增长1倍和2.4倍,比历史上最高的一九六四年总产提高1.7倍,单产提高1.5倍,含糖率平均达到17.5%。白庙子公社获得甜菜高产高糖的重要原因,就是甜菜生产的各主要环节实现了机械化作业。全公社14,100亩甜菜,其中机播12,879亩,机械中耕10,840亩,机械起收2,385亩,打药、翻地全部是机械化作
