If the Three Gorges project can be realized, it will be the largest and most ambitious civil engineering in this century. It will have a significant economic, social and environmental impact on China and will also provide huge investment opportunities for developed countries. Therefore, it is not surprising that this project should be launched and aroused heated controversy both in China and overseas. Such a wide-ranging debate will help to gradually clarify the pros and cons of this project and provide a wealth of information that will help in decision-making.
