蒋介石对宋美龄非常欣赏。从保留下来的蒋介石给宋美龄的情书里面,可以看出他对宋美龄很佩服、很欣赏。蒋介石曾有这样的话,指宋美龄“才华容德,都使我念念不忘”。宋美龄与蒋介石婚后一直未曾生育,《世纪宋美龄》也找到“台北国史馆”典藏的蒋介石日记摘本“爱记”,在1929年8月25日记述:“夫人小产,病益甚”,这段话透露出宋美龄曾经流产的内幕,蒋介石也曾在日记中表示,希望上天能让妻子生育子女,以弥补平生之不足……
