宁海有“七山一水二分田”之称,天台山和四明山两大余脉蜿蜒入境,构成多山地貌,是浙江省32个全山区县之一,又是宁波市惟一的国家级生态示范区建设试点县。独特的地理条件,优越的生态环境十分有利于名优茶生产。80年代后,针对宁海山区资源优势,林特部门着手名茶的开发工作,经过多年努力,目前已形成以“望海茶”为龙头品牌的系列化产品结构。全县现有茶园4万亩,2000年春季名优茶产量322吨,产值2510万元,产量占春茶总产的22.5%,产值要占到春茶总产值的80.8%,成为宁海县农业生产新的经济增长点。
