四张大千沪上访名师二十年代初,蜀人张大千从日本留学归国,刚到上海,就格外注意这里书法家们的作品,其总体水平之高,令他钦服。激发起他的进取心,欲拜名家为师。一日,张大千走进一家书画店,墙上朱先生的一幅字吸引了他的视线,其气势神韵,深深感动了他,即确定投拜为师。谷苇先生撰《张大千拜师》一文,发表在香港《文汇报》,大意是:张大千着意观看店中琳琅四壁的书画,忽然他格外注意看一幅草书字,字极清湛,使他拜倒。款属『百行朱义方』。他向画店主人问清楚了地址,当即赶到凤阳永年里朱府求师,一见朱先生,张大千讶然失措,他想象中人物形象该是位文质彬彬的长者,眼前却是个西装革履、风度翩翩的青年人,年龄还小他一岁。只好变换话题,请朱先生推荐介绍老师。经询问,道出也喜爱天台山农刘玉阶的字,朱先生却要他学曾农髯以取法乎上,于是便促成张大千拜师曾农髯。
