黄汲清是我国地质科学的一代宗师，是中国地质事业的重要开拓者和奠基人之一。他１９２８年毕业于北京大学地质系。１９３５年，获瑞士浓霞台大学理学博士学位。１９４８年，当选中央研究院院士。１９５５年，当选为中国科学院学部委员（院士）。１９８０年，被瑞士联邦理工学院授予名誉博士学位。１９８５年，被美洲地质学会授予名誉会员称号。１９８８年，当选为苏联科学院外籍院士。１９９４年，获陈嘉庚地球科学奖。１９９５年，获何梁何利基金优秀奖。他是中国地质学会第１５届（１９３８年）和３２届（１９７９—１９８４年）理事长，中国科学技术协会常务委员。他还是杰出的社会活动家，曾当选为第１、２、３届全国人民代表大会代表，中国人民政治协商会议全国委员会第５、６、７届常务委员，九三学社中央常务委员兼中央参议委员会副主任。他从事地质科学研究工作７０余年，在古生物学、地层学、大地构造学、地质制图学、石油天然气找矿勘探地质学等等领域都有极其卓越的建树。他先后发表了１５０余篇论文，２０多部专著。
Huang Jiqing is a great master of geosciences in China and one of the pioneers and founders of China’s geological undertaking. He graduated from Peking University Department of Geology in 1928. In 1935, he received a doctorate degree in science from Nongxia University in Switzerland. In 1948, was elected academician of the Academia Sinica. In 1955, was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (academician). In 1980, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. In 1985, honorary member title was honored by the American Geological Society. In 1988, was elected a foreign academician of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. In 1994, he was awarded Tan Kah Gee Earth Science Award. In 1995, Ho Leung Ho Lee Fund Excellence Award. He is chairman of the 15th (1938) and 32nd (1979-1984) Chinese Geological Society, standing member of China Association for Science and Technology. He is also an outstanding social activist who was elected as the representative of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd National People’s Congress, 5th, 6th and 7th Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, Central Standing Committee of the Jiu San Society and Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Senate director. He has been engaged in geological science research for more than 70 years and has made remarkable achievements in such fields as palaeontology, stratigraphy, geotectonics, geology cartography, oil and gas prospecting exploration geology, and so on. He has published more than 150 papers, more than 20 monographs.
