电视电影即为电视首映而制作的影片,起源于20世纪60年代的美国,在国外已有40年的发展历史。由于它吸收了电影传统中用精致的声画语言进行叙事的优势和技巧,又适应了电视媒介的特点和传播手段,几十年来发展迅速。特别是进入20世纪90年代以后,美国商业电视网黄金时段的节目几乎全部是电视电影,观众一周能看到5部,每年约200多部。英国的电视电影出现于20世纪80年代,并迅速成为一个突出的电影工业现象,产生了一大批优秀作品。
