康有为的《康子内外篇·人我篇》云:“守寡不已,则有守清,守清不已,则有代清者,余乡比比皆然。”台湾蒋贵麟主编《万木草堂遗稿外编》(《中国哲学史研究》1980年第一期)以及黄明同、吴熙钊主编《康有为早期遗稿述评》,均未加注释。笔者曾向有关专家请教,均不甚了了。近得南海县志办公室黄志扬复函,中云:关于“守清”、“代清”问题,据一位调查过我县“自梳女”的历史情况的退休老教师的解释,为求死后有个牌位受人祭祀而嫁给已死去的人,名义上是已嫁给了某家,成了某家的人,实际是守活寡者谓之“守清”;为求死后有个牌位受人祭祀,而与男方商定,由自己出钱请别的妇女嫁给他,而自已也在名义上算是嫁了给这家,属这家的人,而实际上与男方并无任何夫妻生活,实际上也是在守活寡者,谓之“代清”。
