1995年11月16日～27日,第9届世界女子举重锦标赛和第67届世界男子举重锦标赛在中国广州举行。尽管中国女队让出了两个级别任他国力士争夺,但在所参加的7个级别中,仍以大包大揽之势轻松摘取16枚金牌,“唯我独尊”之势不可动摇;而已沉寂两年,在前年世锦赛仅获1铜的男子大力士们,却一“举”惊人,以5金5银6铜荣获团体总分第一,实现了3项历史性突破:第一次夺得团体第一;第一次夺得个人总成绩冠军;第一次夺得大级别金牌……中国女子举重的一枝独秀意味着这个项目短期内仍然很难进军奥运会,而中国男队的“突然崛起”令人们惊喜之余,也理所应当对今年奥运会男子举重的前景
