After the retirement of Ge Wenyao, who will chair Shanghai Jahwa, the largest domestic daily chemical company in China, has been a lingering question which was not solved until now.
“Xie Wenjian, former president of J&J Medical Instrument Co., Ltd, has been confirmed to join in the directorate of Shanghai Jahwa and is likely to be the board chairman. Xie has already visited some board members of Shanghai Jahwa and relevant work is smoothly going on,” a source says.
It is known that Xie Wenjian’s arrival is a result of the recommendation by Ping’an Group, the controlling shareholder of Shanghai Jahwa. The to-be new boss’s first task is said to handle the “resistance”of the senior executives of Shanghai Jahwa who plan to resign from the company.
If true, Xie’s appointment has not been based on the consensus inside the company. Several insiders questioned Xie’s experiences and understandings of China’s local daily chemical industry since he has been working in the circle of medical devices. The two sectors are so different from each other that Xie must be careful enough to keep Shanghai Jahwa on the right road.
The resume of Xie tells us that he owns the MBA of New York University and had his Bachelor of Physics and Chemistry at Fudan University. In January 2000, Xie Wenjian was enrolled into J&J as the sales director of its blood sugar device. Due to his good performance, he was finally promoted to the president of the company after spending 13 years in J&J.
Choosing Xie Wenjian, who is a professional executive, as the new board chairman of Shanghai Jahwa is considered to be a compromise of Ping’an to avoid offending Shanghai Jahwa too much. Since Ge Wenyao was the one having led the company for decades, those senior executives loyal to him wanted to leave as well. That’s why Xie Wenjian is like sitting on a crater.
