In the 1980s, it was an era in which Japan’s economy witnessed a major turning point. With the sharp appreciation of the yen in 1985 as an opportunity, Japan gradually realized the readjustment of its major industrial structure and got rid of the impact brought by the appreciation of the yen on the Japanese economy. It successfully realized the shift from a dominant foreign-based economy to a domestic-led one. Since the economy began to recover in late 1986, the rapid growth of domestic demand has led to a growth rate of export growth of less than that of imports. As a result, the trade surplus has continued to narrow and the balance of payments imbalance has been somewhat improved. As the two major pillars of expanding domestic demand for private investment in equipment and personal consumption have rapid growth, so since 1987, Japan’s economy has seen a longer period of prosperity.
