The Early Growth and Development Study (EGDS) is a forward-looking research project for children. This project includes 360 connected parents, adoptive parents and adopted children at birth. The project, which tracks these participants from their infancy for three months, now adds 200 subjects to the relationship and interaction between the genetic and environmental aspects of how the family environment and parenting styles affect the expression of genetic factors. All participants needed to be adopted in the United States. The study collected data on children’s psychological characteristics, psychological characteristics of parents and adoptive parents, ways of parenting, and living conditions of their parents, as well as saliva and DNA. A preliminary analysis revealed that the interaction between heredity and the environment had begun in infancy. This article also discusses the future direction of behavioral genetics from the perspective of intervention.
