1983年10月6日11时,丰都县城内西南部方圆230米范围中的各种建筑物首次发生了原因不明的强烈震动。震动区域近似圆形,直径约230米,面积0.042平方公里,震动强度大约相当于Ⅴ—Ⅵ级地震,历时168小时。这次震动在前五天较为强烈,对建筑物影响很大,特别是位于“震中区”的丰都县房管所一幢四层楼房(简称房管所楼房)震动
