五原县复兴公社庆生五队71岁的老人王兴江,从一九七四年以来,凭着多年对盐碱地的认识,大胆实践,在寸草不生的黑盐碱滩上,栽起了37亩林木。目前,3万多株杨柳树生长健壮,谁能想到这里过去竟是一片不毛之地呢?他在盐碱地上造林的具体做法是:春季在盐碱地里挖出一道道阶梯式的沟,沟口宽2.5～3尺,底宽1尺,深2尺,两侧边坡距地表1尺之处,留一十宽0.5～1尺的梯埂如下图所示。
