Tuberculosis isoniazid-resistant strains have long been thought to be associated with the deletion of the gene encoding the hydrogen peroxide-peroxidase KatG. To determine whether this lack of isoniazid resistance was the only mechanism of failure, the authors obtained nine isoniazid-resistant and one susceptible strains from the British Columbia Center for Disease Control (BCCDC) in Canada for the study. All samples were tested for catalase activity and susceptibility using standard methods. The concentration of the drug used to determine susceptibility was 0.02 μg / ml, and the same volume of chloroform-isoamyl alcohol was used to extract each dose
