流行性脑脊髓膜炎(流脑)具有较高的发病率和死亡率,患者的病死率可达到10%,幸存者中,大约有10%～15%的人伴有长期的后遗症。鼻咽部携带的脑膜炎奈瑟菌是流脑的前兆,但大部分携带者并不发病。

Epidemiological meningitis (meningitis) has a high morbidity and mortality, with a mortality rate of up to 10%. About 10% to 15% of survivors have long-term sequelae. Neisseria meningitides carried in the nasopharynx are precursors of meningitis, but most carriers do not.
