Objective To investigate the expression of OX40 and OX40L on peripheral blood T lymphocytes and monocytes in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its possible role in the pathogenesis of SLE. Methods Flow cytometry was used to detect the expression of OX40 on peripheral blood T cells and OX40L on monocytes in 26 SLE patients and 15 healthy volunteers. Results The expression level of OX40 in CD4 + T cells in peripheral blood of SLE patients was 8.91 ± 5.07, significantly higher than that of normal controls (3.46 ± 1.72) (P <0.05), while the expression of OX40 in CD8 + T cells was 3.89 ± 1.94, (3.34 ± 1.44) (P> 0.05). The expression level of OX40L on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (31.23 ± 10.05) was significantly higher than that of the control group (21.01 ± 6.92) (P <0.05). Conclusions The abnormal expression of OX40 and OX40L on T cells and monocytes in peripheral blood of SLE patients suggests that OX40 / OX40L signaling may contribute to the continual activation of T cells in the process of interaction between T cells and monocytes, thus participating in the process of SLE Development took place.
