In memory of Prof. Hou Defeng who had made great contributions to the development ofgeology and geochemistry of China,the Chinese Society of Mineralogy, Petrology andGeochemistry made a decision at its Second Plenary Session participated in by all the Councilors inNov.,1983 to set up the Hou Defeng Award Committee to appraise and issue awards to those whohave made great contributions in scientific research and encourage younger scientists to bring theircreative ability into full play in scientific research and national economic services so as to promotethe further development of geology and geochemistry of our country.The Hou Defeng Award is an honourable award,which is issued every two years.Gold merit
