曹禺和老舍两位先生是互相非常敬重的挚友,早在20世纪40年代中期,他们应美国国务院的邀请,首次作为民间的文化人一同去美国讲学;后来周恩来总理通过曹禺邀请老舍,使他们先后回到北京参加新中国的文化建设;再后来在“文化大革命”中,他们又一同遭受迫害摧残,一位含恨投湖自尽,一位虽然活了下来,精神上却几乎崩溃。记得曹禺在重新获得写作权利以后,总是时时关切地提起“老舍能不能平反、什么时候平反”的问题。

As early as the mid-1940s, Cao Yu and Lao She both exchanged friendships with the United States as folk cultural people for the first time as early as the mid-1940s. Later Premier Zhou Enlai invited Cao Lao Returned to Beijing to participate in the cultural construction of new China; and then later in the “Cultural Revolution”, they were persecuted and destroyed together, a bitterness and drowsiness, one who survived, but almost collapsed in spirit. I remember that after regaining his right to write, Cao Yu always raised his concern with questions such as “Can Lao Shentai Rebuild When Is Reversing?”
