1856年10月到1860年10月,英、法资产阶级政府,为了扩大在第一次鸦片战争中所取得的权益,以达到“改约章、索偿款、增商埠”的目的,在美、俄等国支持下,悍然发动了侵略中国的第二次鸦片战争。面对外国资本主义的侵略,为了维护国家独立和民族尊严,中华民族优秀儿女,进行了抗击英法侵略的英勇斗争,谱写了爱国主义的颂歌。回族爱国将领沙春元,就是其中的一员。
