黄桂秋(1906—1978)是别辟蹊径的京剧黄派旦角艺术创始人。他曾拜陈德霖为师,早年与京剧名角杨小楼、余叔岩、高庆奎、马连良等合作演出。后去南方,以《别宫祭江》获得“江南第一旦”的美誉。黄的嗓音甜美,强调湖广韵,吐字行腔讲究技巧,他以独树一帜的艺术风格,蜚声江南,被称为“黄派”。京剧名票孙履安在他的《京尘杂忆》里,记录了黄桂秋写给弟子的一封信,谈及京剧念白与唱腔的种种:
Huang Guiqiu (1906-1978) is another founder of Peking Opera Huangjiao Danjue. He had known Chen Delin as a teacher, early years and Peking Opera actor Yang Xiaolu, Yu Shuyan, Gao Qingkui, Ma Lianliang and other performances. After going to the south, “Beijiang Ji Jiang” won the “first Jiangnan” reputation. Yellow sweet voice, emphasizing Huguang Yun, spelling words pay attention to skills, his unique style of art, renowned Jiangnan, known as “yellow school ”. In his “Jing Chen Misu Yi”, Sun Lu’an, a famous opera actress, wrote a letter written by Huang Guiqiu to his disciples, addressing various aspects of Peking opera singing and singing:
