张宏根这个被中国足坛冷落多年的人,这个被誉为“中国的贝利”的宿将,连他自己也想不到突然间又被推到中国足球的前台。整整三年了,张宏根穿着考究的西装在北京百乐酒店当“公关先生”,去年亚运会之前,他才辞掉百乐酒店副总经理的职位,返回国家体委训练局,到咨询委员会担任一名咨询教练,每天到训练场看看中国队和中国奥林匹克队的训练。1991年二月,张宏根收到中国足协发给他的一份通知,他被告知已被推举入选中国足协技术委员会属下的国家队教练委员会18位成员之一,邀请他于3月15日之前抵达昆明海埂训练基地,以便出席参加3月15日至19日在那里召开的国家队教练委员会首届会议。
