怀俄明产出的一种与格陵兰变彩正闪石相似的宝石级变彩直闪石目前已经过了签定。这种装饰材料产于橄榄岩体接触带附近受风化的片麻岩-片岩中。岩石由单个有变彩的颗粒组成,单颗粒多呈金黄色或深褐色,少数呈玫瑰红色或银灰色,主要由针铁矿和(或)蛋白质氧化硅组成,这两种矿物可能是原生铁正闪石风化的产物。目前这种宝石还不具有经济价值,但该矿床可能潜在有极大的储量。
