本省春季低温多雨,影响西瓜秧苗生长,并往往造成大量死苗。西瓜结果期又值霉雨季节,有利于西瓜病害的发生与蔓延,对植株的生长和结果极为不利,是造成产量不高不稳的重要原因。利用杂种优势,提高农作物的产量,是近代发展农业生产的重要途径之一。据报导,西瓜品种间杂种一代生长优势明显。我们试图通过西瓜品种间杂交,利用杂种一代提高植株长势,增强抗病能力,从而减轻或克服西瓜生长期间不利气候条件的影响,达到高产稳产的目的。为此,我们自1974年以来,选配了一些组合,并进行了田间试验鉴定。1976年以后,我们又对几个具有优良性状的组合进行了多点示范试验,现将初步结果整理如下。

It is reported that hybrid generation of watermelon has obvious growth advantages. We try to use hybrid generation to improve plant growth and enhance disease resistance by crossing between watermelon varieties, so as to reduce or overcome the unfavorable climatic conditions during the growth of watermelon and achieve the purpose of high and stable yield. To this end, we have selected some combinations since 1974 and conducted field trials. After 1976, we conducted several demonstration experiments on several combinations with excellent traits. The preliminary results are summarized as follows.
