上海地区8—9月份为蔬菜淡季,主要由于高温、台风暴雨、干旱等不利气候条件,造成品种单调,货源少,市场供应偏紧。为了使蔬菜淡季不淡,品种不少,我镇从1933年起引进种植秋豇512品种,在1993年多雨涝灾,1994年高温干旱加上甜菜夜蛾大暴发的情况下,秋豇512的抗逆性经受了考验,获得了稳产高产。秋豇512全生育期为75—80天,采收期为36天,单株结荚数为12.8个,嫩荚绿色,荚长34.1cm,荚宽0.8cm,单荚重17.5g,单荚种子数13.6粒,干粒重135g,嫩荚吃口软糯,
