1926年冬天,毛泽东率领的秋收起义部队在井冈山站稳了脚跟,为了巩固这块得天独厚的革命根据地,粉碎国民党反动派的围剿,毛泽东急切盼望朱德、陈毅等把他们领导的南昌起义部队拉上山来共谋发展大计,为了及早找到朱德、陈毅,毛泽东决定指派熟悉山内情况而且足智多谋的独立营党代表何长工星夜起程,踏上了千里征途,为伟大的井冈山会师作好充分准备。何长工(原名何坤),1900年在湖南华容县出生,曾与周恩来一起参与旅欧支部的建设,1926年,毛泽东为他改名何长工,此后,他先后参加秋收起义、井冈山会师、长征,历任帅、军政委及抗日军政大学总校副校长。新中国成立后,担任重工业部、地矿部副部长和解放军军政大学副校长、全国政协副主席、中顾委常委等职。1987午12月在北京逝世,终年87岁。
