20世纪20年代前后,随着现代主义小说的产生,小说家们就小说的内容与形式关系、技巧改革、现实主义等问题展开了一系列的讨论。英国小说家弗吉尼亚·吴尔夫(Virginia Woolf)凭借其丰富的小说实践以及理论思考提出了一系列与众不同的看法。本文以吴尔夫的文集、书信为依据,阐述这位现代主义小说家兼理论家就小说形式、小说时间、小说人物、情节结构发表的主要观点,说明以反映个人印象的直接性、内心意识的真实性为主要任务的现代小说观与传统小说理论之间的差异与联系。
Before and after the 1920s, with the emergence of modernist novels, novelists started a series of discussions on the contents of the novel, formal relations, technical reform and realism. Virginia Woolf, a British novelist, has come up with a series of distinctive views with his rich practice of novels and his theoretical thinking. This essay, based on Wu Erfu’s essays and letters, expounds the main viewpoints of the modernist novelist and theorist on the form of novels, the time of novels, the characters of the novel and the structure of the plot. It shows that in order to reflect the directness of personal impressions and the truth of inner consciousness Differences and relations between the modern novel view of the nature and the traditional novel theory.
