阐明了核燃料元件制造的重要设备之一——自动切管机设计、研制的必要性和意义。介绍了刚性很差的薄壁细长锆管大批量精加工所采用的合理加工方法;关键部件的结构与作用;为保证管件的加工精度所采用的关键技术和有效保证措施以及为实现整机全自动操作而设计的微机程序控制系统。成功地设计并研制了微机控制的双切削动力头、多刀加工全自动切管机。该机已应用在秦山核电站反应堆燃料组件的生产中。
