Natural rubber (cis-1,4-polyisoprene) is a polymer of many industrial uses synthesized in the Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg. As latex specific or highly abundant genes, they may play a very important role in rubber biosynthesis. In this study, we constructed a cDNA library derived from rubber gum latex of Brazil and studied the gene expression in latex by one-way partial sequencing of cDNA clones. A total of 245 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were identified by sequence analysis, of which 57% shared some degree of homology with existing sequences in public databases.
