3D printing technology, also known as Additive Manufacturing, has the wonders of breaking through the conventional mindset and making the next generation of aerospace metals competitive with composites. The aviation industry is the forerunner of such process applications, and in this area, Europe leads the world and the United States is catching up. The traditional machining method to manufacture aircraft parts requires tooling preparation. The delivery time for large castings often takes about one year. Using 3D printing technology avoids this problem and allows engineers to spend more time designing and optimizing.
