我作为中国广西的“国际访问者”,应美国新闻总署的邀请,于1988年6月20日至7月21日,对美国进行了为期一个月的友好访问。访问期间,正值美国全国图书馆协会第107届年会,于7月9日至14日在新奥尔良市隆重举行。作为广西图书馆馆长,我被正式邀请参加了这次盛会。这是一项规模庞大的年会,参加人员达一万五千多人,讨论的议题达三百多项。新奥尔良十几家大旅馆几乎全让代表们包了。对于这样一个盛大的集会,不是三言两语说得清楚的,这里只介绍一些片段与情况,以飨对此感兴趣的读者。
As an “international visitor” to Guangxi in China, I paid a one-month goodwill visit to the United States from June 20 to July 21, 1988, at the invitation of the Information Service of the United States. During the visit, the 107th Annual Meeting of the National Library Association of America was held ceremoniously in New Orleans from July 9 to July 14. As director of Guangxi Library, I was officially invited to this event. This is a large-scale annual meeting with more than 15,000 participants and over 300 issues under discussion.
