子貢是孔子最傑出的弟子之一。他聰明多才,在政務、經商、外交等諸多方面都有不凡表現。無論在孔門弟子中,抑或在當時魯國的上流社會中,子貢都享有很高的聲望。司馬遷在《史記·仲尼弟子列傳》中,對子貢更讚譽有加、記録頗詳,儼然目之爲孔門諸弟子冠冕。然而,孔子本人在讚賞子貢才幹出衆的同時,卻又對其略有微辭。在《論語》裏,子貢可算是受孔子批評最多的學生之一(另一爲子路)。據《韓非子·顯學》,孔子殁後儒分爲八,卻無子貢一派。在秦後儒學中,子貢既不顯揚於兩漢
Zi Gong is one of the most outstanding disciples of Confucius. He is clever and versatile and has extraordinary performance in many areas such as government affairs, business and diplomacy. No matter in Confucian disciples, or in the high society of Lu State at that time, Zigong enjoyed a high reputation.
