Objective: To investigate the value of whole body diffusion weighted imaging (WB-DWI) in postoperative follow-up of patients with breast cancer. Methods: Forty-two patients with breast cancer who underwent follow-up were examined by whole body diffusion weighted imaging with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The suspicious metastatic sites were examined by conventional MRI. PET images were reconstructed using 3D MIP and B & W technique. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the lesion was measured, and the ADC value of benign and malignant lesions was compared. Statistical analysis was also performed. Results: Thirty-five lesions in 8 patients showed high signal intensity on diffusion-weighted whole body image, ADC showed low signal intensity and ADC value of lesion was significantly decreased. The lesions were clinically confirmed as malignant lesions or metastases. Conclusion: WB-DWI has important clinical value in the detection of postoperative metastatic lesions in patients with breast cancer.
