为了防止水库土石坝迎水坡面受风浪、水流的冲击,冰块及其它飘浮物的损害,要求设置护坡保护。护坡由上部面层和下部垫层组成。面层直接抗御外力的破坏;垫层是防止坝坡土粒被波动渗流冲蚀及作为面层的铺垫。护坡有不同类型,较常用的有抛石及砌石护坡,混凝上及钢筋混凝土板护坡,沥青混凝土护坡,土—水泥护坡等。垫层常采用碎石,分多级垫层及不分级的单级垫层。
