The 12th International Conference on Pharmaceutical Epidemiology (12th ICPE), organized and hosted by ISPE, was held in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, from August 25 to 28, 1996. More than 360 experts from 36 countries (including regions) attended this annual meeting. ISPE Chairman Alexander M. Walker, 12th ICPE Chairman Stanley A. Edlavitch and Host Country President Jan Willem Van der Velden presided over the opening ceremony. 57 papers presented in 9 sessions: (1) Diabetes drugs; (2) NSAIDs; (3) antipsychotics; (4) data quality and effectiveness of the study; (5) statistics And epidemiology; (6) cardiovascular drugs; (7) hot topics in the field of pharmacoepidemiology; (8) recent achievements; and (9) oral contraceptives and the risk of cardiovascular events. 38 papers are divided into 9 sessions for thematic studies: (1) methodology: credibility; (2) spontaneous reporting system; (3) international network
