典故作为一个民族文明的载体,是民族文化的精髓。英美文学作品中的典故在英美文学发展中有着悠久的历史,是人们喜欢的语言技巧之一。所谓典故,通常是指涉及一些历史人物或某个特定的规章制度的故事,有一定的暗示作用。典故乃文学作品中常见的语言表达技巧,言简意赅,寓意深刻,通常有一定的隐喻意义。如果能把典故用得恰到好处,不仅可以增添文章的趣味性,使语言生动活泼,而且还可以增强文章的说服力
